With thanks to LC, who says “a few photos from the clean up on last Saturday. We’d be delighted if you were able to mention the project on your blog and share a couple of the images.” With pleasure! Also for reference the group’s Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/groups/royalcanal

With thanks to SmcG, who says “A significant increase in dumping here over the last month, someone is turing it into their own personal dumping ground, over 20 bags in a small area. A disgrace that this is allowed to happen in a modern city in 2014 and a disgrace that the people employed to take care of the city enabled this behaviour and then ignored the obvious consequences. Seems the only winners in this mess are the dogs that are allowed to do this.”

With thanks to BH, who says ” It makes my blood boil to see pictures like that in 2014. Some may view litter as just a specific & small issue. However, litter and the attitudes of people who illegally dump rubbish have a knock on effect in every aspect of public life. it affects our mental health, can lead to public health issues, rats, vermin, visually disgusting and gives an overall impression of neglect, uncaring local authority, run down and attracts illegal activity, vandalism, lower property values and subsequent closing of businesses which feed the whole cycle.”
With thanks to ER, who says “Just a follow up on the Pics I sent end of Oct 2013 – Maybe a slight improvement but loads of the same plastic, electronic, needles and general rubbish still there so not even sure the council have visited”
With thanks to GG, who says “TThis st is unbearable – I pick up my dog shit and wonder at the point of it all.”
With thanks to BH, who says “I’m living on Belvedere Road for two years and litter / illegal dumping is a huge problem on this street and all adjacent streets – Dorset Street, Belvedere Place, Belvedere Gardens, Lower Nth Circular, Sherard Avenue/rd/place…The council are well aware of it and I believe someone in management doesn’t have the initiative to make the landlords accountable. I believe 99% of the problem in these areas is transient/short term lettings – flats with people of mixed nationality who believe that the landlords are the only ones responsible. The landlords in turn don’t visit these properties from one end of the year to the next and they fob it off to the tenants. Nobody takes responsibility and the bin companies don’t take an overall view in owning up to the problem caused by their incoherent bin collection schedules and lack of communication. T”
